Through the composition of mass, structural repetition, and openings, the bathhouse represents monolithic character as the civic quality. While perimeter walls separate the internal programs, the roof cantilevers over the street, offering the first experience of the bathhouse to the public. Additionally, the entrance extends the sidewalk and invites public into the building.
Internally, the program is organized around a sequence of transitional and common spaces. Tilted structural walls and the four circular skylights, axially aligned with the programs below, guide circulation while maintaining the balance between open and private spaces. The atmosphere is defined by a rhythmic dialogue between light, weight and structures. In-situ concrete columns of varying shapes and scale adds sacred quality to the bathhouse.
