Through the composition of mass, structural repetition, and openings, the bathhouse asserts a monolithic, civic character. Perimeter walls separate the internal programs, while the roof cantilevers over the street to offer the first experience of the bathhouse to the public. The entrance extends the sidewalk and draws people inward.
Internally, the program is organized around a sequence of transitional and common spaces. Tilted structural walls and four circular skylights, axially aligned with the programs below, guide circulation while maintaining a balance between open and private spaces. The atmosphere is defined by a rhythmic dialogue between light, weight, and structure. In-situ concrete columns of varying shape and scale offers a sacred quality to the bathhouse.
